Diablo is an interesting and immersive story game, with plenty of action, side quests and fighting. The game has been an 18 since the release of the original, and it doesn't seem set to change any time soon. But is this a fair rating? And should we be allowing people younger than 18 to play?
First off, let's be very clear, Diablos story is pretty horrific. It features a lot of gore, devil worship and pretty disgusting deaths. There is no way of getting around the fact this is a game designed for adults. So anyone under the age of 15 should not really be playing this. Ignoring the story, the game is fun, has cool mechanics and can be good for team building. It features magic, close and long range attacks and plenty of puzzles and room to implement strategy. The diablo story features around Lilith, a demon and fabled "Daughter of Hatred" and "Creator of Sanctuary". The background to the story is a battle between the Forces of Heaven and Hell, and Lilith has been resummoned from the depths by cultists to fill the vacuum 50 years after the events of Diablo 3.
Now, for any parent who has continued reading, you are either invested in the story, or still think your child should play this game. There is exceptions, and like many games you will play, it partly comes down to your child. If they have played Assassins Creed, Call of Duty or Mortal Combat e.c.t, you may consider allowing them to play. You could technically say they can play but skip the cutscenes, but this would be difficult to enforce. I think it's fair to say, diablo is designed for adults.
So what's the verdict? Well, the devil themes as well as the blood means this is probably not suitable for anyone under the age of 15. If you allow them to play Assassins Creed, or other violent games, Diablo is probably ok. There are many parents who allow there children to play these games younger, so please do not think you are wrong in your choice if you believe there is no issue with the game. We just share general advice, So, to be honest, 15 is probably the way to go on this one, but once again, this can be adjusted based on your child.
